Abstract
Tests for control of Thrips tabaci from 1945 to 1952 showed that DDT, dieldrin, heptachlor, parathion and toxaphene were effective. DDT emulsion gave better results than DDT suspension spray, although the latter was improved by addition of nicotine sulfate, HETP or parathion. High- and low-pressure sprays, dusts, an aerosol, and turbine blower applications were used in various tests. The same dosages of insecticides were about equally effective whether applied in 10 to 25 gal. or in 100 to 150 gal. of spray per acre. Dusts controlled the thrips in seed umbels but did not give significant increases in yields of onion seed over a 5-year period. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
