Abstract
The directional angular correlation of the 909-1850-kev γγ cascade in Sr88 has been measured with a coincidence scintillation spectrometer using NaI detectors. For a dilute YCl3 aqueous solution source, the observed correlation function, after correction for the finite angular resolution of the detectors, is given by W(θ)=1(0.0699±0.0025)P2(cosθ). The theoretical correlation function for the sequence 3(D)2(Q)0 is W(θ)=10.07143P2(cosθ); hence it is concluded that both of the transitions in the cascade are pure multipoles.
