Abstract
Serious difficulties encountered with a vibrating sample magnetometer in an Nb3Sn ribbon wound superconducting solenoid are described. A useful sensitivity of 10−4 emu was achieved, but absolute accuracy was severely limited by unstable magnetic image effects which precluded proper calibration. It is suggested that use of large bore solenoids will overcome the basic difficulties. Keywords
