Abstract
Measurements on the fission of U and Ta induced by 156-MeV protons were made with semiconductor detectors for the fission fragments. Information concerning the following quantities was obtained: fission cross section of Ta; fission probability for Ta and U as a function of angle between the fission fragments; single-fragment and fragment-pair kinetic energy spectra as a function of angle between fragments, in the case of U; and kinetic energy spectra integrated over all angles between fragments, in the case of Ta. The results are interpreted in terms of the cascade-evaporation model, and some comparisons with the liquid-drop-fission calculations are presented. Keywords
