Abstract
To a reagent of 24.97 g./l. of CuSO4. 5H2 O, 141 g. K Na tartrate [center dot] 4H2O, 138 g. K2CO3, and 51 g. K4 Fe(CN)6 [center dot] 3H2O is added a neutral sugar soln. and boiled. Sugar soln. is added until the blue color of the copper has disappeared. Then 2-3 drops of 2 g./l. aqueous methylene blue is added and the sugar soln. added drop by drop until the color disappears. Results are calculated from comparison of known and unknown sugar solns. The relative error is 0.8%. The mixture is claimed to give the lowest hydrolytic and oxidative cleavage of glucoside bonds in oligo- and polysaccharides. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
