Abstract
Glucose and citric acid levels were detd. simultaneously during a glucose tolerance test on 12 adults and 12 children. The citric acid level drops to a minimum (25 to 35%) below the fasting level and returns to the fasting level at the end of 5 to 6 hrs. The lowering of the citric acid level is greatest during the period when glucose is most rapidly being removed from the blood. In the normal individual the highest level of citric acid in the serum is the fasting level. Injn. of insulin alone into humans causes a lowering of citric acid serum levels. Various possible mechanisms for the citric acid level response to the oral admn. of glucose are discussed. Keywords
