Abstract
Detns. were made on 6 trained dogs using T.1824 for plasma vol. and NaSCN for available fluid vol. Erythrocyte vol. and total blood vol. were calculated from plasma vol. and % erythrocyte vol. Injns. were repeated in about 1 hr. No significant difference was found in plasma vol. or available fluid between the 1st and 2d detn. Erythrocyte vol. was less on the 2d detn. by 1.6%, due to a fall in % erythrocyte vol. No evidence was found to support the view that part of the blue dye of the 1st injn. is impounded by the reticulo-endothelial system. The values found were: for plasma vol. 56.3 (40.6-75.7) ml./ kg.; for total blood vol. 96.6 (69.8-137) ml./kg.; available fluid vol. 312 (240-380) ml./kg.Keywords
