INHIBITION OF CIMETIDINE-INDUCED HYPERPROLACTINAEMIA BY PRETREATMENT WITH LEVODOPA OR BROMOCRIPTINE

Abstract
Cimetidine, an histamine H2-receptor antagonist, employed in the treatment of peptic ulcers, sometimes causes gynecomastia and galactorrhoea. A single i.v. administration of cimetidine produced a significant increase in serum prolactin (PRL) levels in 15 normal men. This effect was suppressed by pretreatment with L-dopa or bromocriptine.
