Abstract
A flash lamp is described which produces a high energy, short duration flash with relatively little afterglow. The flash is constrained to an annulus between a tube and concentric rod. The resistance of the lamp damps electrical oscillations, and the geometry provides quenching surface for reducing afterglow. The flash duration, flash tailing, and light output are given as a function of xenon pressure, flash energy, and flash voltage. Typically, a 288 J flash has a width of 2.7 μsec at 50% of peak height and 7 μsec at 1% of peak height. Keywords
