CHLOROPLAST PIGMENTS IN RELATION TO MAGNESIUM DEFICIENCY

Abstract
A study of the effects of Mg deficiency on the chlorophyll, xanthophyll and carotene contents of leaves of 20 different plants grown under field conditions indicated that Mg deficiency caused losses in the leaves of the 3 pigments in the ratio of 20 parts of chlorophyll to 2 parts of xanthophyll to one of carotene. The ratios of the 3 pigments one to the other were not appreciably disturbed by Mg deficiency.
