Abstract
In view of the observation that testosterone increases the size of the kidneys in certain animals, the effects of certain hormones on the renal function of man were detd. Four normal individuals were given 90 mg. of testosterone in sesame oil intramusc. daily for 23 days, 100 mg. for 13 days, 300 mg. for 8 days, and 300 mg. for 14 days, respectively. This treatment did not significantly affect the rate of glomerular filtration, renal blood flow, effective tubular secretory mass or effective tubular resorp-tive mass. Another androgen, pregnenolone, was given in amts. of 100 mg. daily for 30 days with no effects on the renal function. Orchiectomy, likewise, did not change kidney function. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
