Abstract
400 rats were stimu-lated by a high pitched whistle and the ensuing activity was recorded by means of a specially constructed stabilim-eter. Approx. 30% of the animals tested have repeatedly had convulsions. Activity records are reproduced. Seven phases of the typical convulsions are distinguishable on the record. Termination of the sound during the convulsive jumping stage ordinarily results in the cessation of the jumping. A table is presented showing the duration of the phases of the convulsion. This pattern appears more closely related to epileptoid attacks in animals and humans rather than a " ''neurotic'' form of behavior arising from ''psychological conflict.''
