Abstract
A formation of runaway electron beam in plasma by externally applied strong electric field and interactions of the runaway electron beam with the plasma were studied experimentally in a figure-eight shaped toroidal device. Accelerated electrons were a relatively small fraction of the electrons in the plasma. An intense microwave radiation was observed and measured in detail. A limit of the beam current and the radiation were found to result from instabilities caused by coupling of a slow wave of the beam aud plasma waves. Keywords
