Abstract
The thermodynamic properties of an easy-plane ferromagnetic chain have been shown to differ from those of the sine-Gordon theory. This difference is accounted for in terms of an instability of the sine-Gordon solitons. The calcualted renormalized soliton energy is in agreement with the experiments. Keywords
