Abstract
Sulfactin, an antibiotic produced by an actinomyces, is active primarily against Gram-positive microorganisms. Its activity is not reduced by addition of 5% NaCl to the culture medium but is reduced somewhat by the addition of 10% blood. The LD50 for mice weighing 17-20 g. is about 2,750 7 by the intraperit. route. The amt. of sulfactin required to protect mice against 1,000 m.l.d. of Diplococcus pneumoniae, type 1, is of the order of 1 to 7.5 7.Keywords
