Abstract
Three mock-iodine manikins, simulating hypothyroid, euthyroid and hyperthyroid patients, were circulated to interested laboratories in Australia. The true uptake values and the average unsigned errors of the reported measurements (as a percent of true uptake) were, 12.4%, (12.9), 36% (3.9) and 60% (10.1). It was concluded that Australian euthyroidal uptakes are accurately measured and may be validly compared with those in other parts of the world in international surveys of thyroid function. It appeared that the measurement of both high and low uptakes could be improved.
