Evaluation of Intra-Articular Thio-Tepa in Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract
Thlo-tepa injected intra-articularly in doses of 7.5 to 60 mg in 19 patients with rheumatoid arthritis resulted in no significant inprovement. Synovial fluid analyses for viscosity, latex test, leucocyte count, protein distribution as determined by paper electrophoresis, and acid phospha-tase and beta-glucuronidase activities did not reveal any consistent alterations attributable to thio-tepa. Hematological changes manifested by a decrease in platelets in one patient and by lowered but not leucop-enic, white blood cell counts in 5 patients indicated that potentially serious complications could ensue with such therapy.
