Abstract
The relative-growth function given in the title is mathematically examined for its implications in the case that differences in proportions of certain parts of related organisms may be adequately accounted for by varying b and k. The author ascertains the necessary and sufficient condition that must be satisfied if the equation is to be valid for this case, and finds that this condition is not met by the relative-growth curves that have been published. He concludes that the equation is an empirical approximation so that mathematical deductions from it are not warranted.
