Abstract
Cross sections for multiphoton detachment from the negative ion of fluorine are calculated by applying the complex dilatation method with a finite basis of square integrable wavefunctions. The ion ground state is represented by a Hartree-Fock wavefunction. Excited states are described in the frozen core approximation. The author discusses the validity of representing excited states by a core plus a free electron to calculate multiphoton detachment cross sections. Two-photon detachment cross sections are compared with previous calculations.
