Abstract
The magnetic-field—temperature phase diagram and critical behavior of As are described. Spin-orientation changes with field are observed, in agreement with theoretical expectations, but tetracritical behavior is not found. A model based upon random strains is proposed to explain the failure to show the anticipated critical behavior.
