Abstract
Fluctuating mean-field theories of itinerant magnetism are extensions of Stoner theory which give a better account of temperature dependencies. They include the effects of spin-wave excitations, and allow for substantial magnetic behavior in the paramagnetic state. I discuss these theories and how well they are supported by thermodynamic data, and by recent neutron scattering and photoemission experiments, particularly in the cases of iron and nickel. This publication has 56 references indexed in Scilit:
