Abstract
A sphincter-saving operative method of treating post-irradiation rectovaginal fistulas is presented. The technique involves the peranal anastomosis of healthy colon to the mid-anal canal using a ‘sleeve’ anastomosis. Four patients have been treated with cure of the fistula and a return to normal bowel habit. A fifth, with an irradiation ulcer causing intractable pain, also obtained complete relief of symptoms. Keywords
