Abstract
X-ray and miscibility studies of the smectic phases of several 2,5-diphenylpyrimidine esters are presented. These investigations lead to the establishment of a new type of tilted smectic phase with a short range positional order within the smectic layers. The code letter M is proposed for this phase. Keywords
