Abstract
To the Editor: Haynes and Fauci1 recently reported a case of Wegener's granulomatosis associated with diabetes insipidus. Therapy with cyclophosphamide induced remission of both diseases. The authors suggested that the remission of the diabetes was a direct result of the therapy for the granulomatosis. However, an alternative explanation is available.Cyclophosphamide has produced an antidiuresis like that produced by antiduretic hormone when the drug is injected into water-loaded patients,2 and has been linked to the development of hyponatremia with inappropriately concentrated urine (syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone) in several patients.3 , 4 Therefore, the resolution of the diabetes insipidus in . . .Keywords
