Abstract
The dung breeding dipteran Hybopygia varia was identified as an important host for the braconid Aphaereta aotea and an encyrtid wasp Tachinaephagus zealandicus in New Zealand. The widespread geographic distribution of these parasitoids, which show potential to act as biocontrol agents against myiasis-inducing flies, was determined by examining sheep and cattle dung. Aphaereta aotea was recorded from November to May with a shorter activity period being recorded for T. zealandicus. A third parasitoid, Alysia manducator, was recorded from a Coromandel sample of sheep dung collected in February.
