Granulomatous giant‐celled angiitis of the central nervous system

Abstract
A 66-year-old man developed acute encephalopathy and died within 6 wks. of the onset of the illness. At necropsy the cause of the cerebral condition was a widespread angiitis of the small cerebral arteries whose walls were necrosed and surrounded by a granulomatous exudate containing many giant cells. The features of this case have been compared with the 8 previously reported instances of this primary granulomatous giant-celled arteritis of the nervous system.
