Abstract
Kidney transamidinase activity was found to be lower in rats bearing Walker carcinoma 256 than in pair-fed controls. The lowering was greater in rats with larger tumors. Despite this, the concentrations of guanidoacetic acid in plasma and kidney, and its excretion in urine were unchanged during tumor growth. However, its concentration in liver of the tumor-bearing rat was somewhat increased. These observations appear to indicate that the rate of guanidoacetic acid synthesis is not responsible for the decreased creatine synthesis found in tumor-bearing rats. (Bauer and Wu, Proc. Am. Assn.
