Abstract
The direct response of the rat intestine to large oral doses of neomycin has been studied. By incubation techniques in vitro, it has been shown that the absorptive capacity for amino-acids is actually increased after successive doses of the drug. The metabolic activity of the intestine is hardly changed, and no serious histological modifications have been noted. Although the rats showed evidence of diarrhea, the faecal fat was greatly reduced after neomycin treatment. These results are discussed in the light of recent publications on the subject of neomycin therapy. Keywords
