QUANTITATIVE STUDIES ON THE PRECIPITIN REACTION

Abstract
Antisera prepared by injecting rabbits with R-salt-azo-benzidine azo-crystalline egg albumin gave precipitates with crystalline egg albumin as well as with the homologous antigen. Quantitative studies showed that although the course of the 2 reactions differed, the same antibody was involved. The dye-protein did not react with anti-egg albumin. A possible explanation for occurrence of this one-sided cross reaction is given in terms of reactive groupings on the antigen and antibody.
