Abstract
The formation of I(2P1/2) from the reaction of F atoms with I2 has been studied by comparing the intensity of the I(2P1/2→2P3/2) transition to that of HF(v=2)→HF(v=0) from the F+CH4 reaction for the same [F]. From the rate constant for F+CH4 an upper limit rate constant for (2P1/2) formation is set as ≤1.8×10−13 cm3 molecule−1 s−1. This corresponds to a branching fraction of less than 0.0004 relative to ground state I(2P3/2) formation for F+I2.Keywords
