Abstract
The relativistic R-matrix method is used to calculate the total cross section for the photoionisation of mercury for photon energies in the range 10.43 eV (the ionisation potential of mercury) to 14 eV. These cross sections reveal a wealth of structure in this energy region. The asymmetry parameter, beta , for the angular distribution of the photoelectrons is also calculated. Keywords
