Abstract
The electrophoretic mobility of ophthalmic acid, a tripeptide isolated from calf lens, shows that the glutamic acid residue is [gamma] -linked, and hence that ophthalmic acid is [gamma]-glutamyl-o-amino-n-butyrylglycine. This structure was confirmed by the synthesis of ophthalmic acid. The structure of ophthalmic acid is compared with that of glutathione. Keywords
