Abstract
The milk of a grey Atlantic seal (Halichoerus grypus) resembled whale milk as its fat content was 10 times that of the milk of land animals. The chief acids are palmitic and unsaturated C18 acids. The results were compared with values for blubber oils of elephant, leopard, common and grey Atlantic seals. The milk fat contained only those acids which occurred in the blubber fat but showed a higher content of palmitic and C18 unsaturated acids, so that it is relatively more saturated than the blubber oil, in contrast to that of the blue whale. Keywords
