Abstract
The amplification characteristics of 1.58 µm band Er3+-doped fibre amplifiers pumped in the 0.98 and 1.48 µm bands were investigated. The noise characteristics were improved by adopting 0.98 µm band pumping. There was > 0.3 dB improvement in both the average noise figure and the flatness of the noise figure. Keywords
