Abstract
In cows suffering from parturient paresis and eclampsia, marked lymphopenia and eosinopenia were noted. Adrenals were large, and cortex hypertrophied. Intracellular sudanophilic Schutz-negative granules were seen in all adreno-cortical zones; and birefringent, acetone-soluble substances occurred only in the zona glomerulosa. The pituitary was large, with colloid substance. Pronounced basophilic invasion of the pars nervosa had occurred, and some of the basophiles in the anterior lobe showed homogeneous cytoplasm (Crookes change?). The author therefore believes that the disease is one of the "diseases of adaptation" (Selye). Keywords
