Photoabsorption and photoemission of Cu near the3pthreshold

Abstract
The photoabsorption and photoemission of Cu in the region of the 3p threshold have been calculated. The resonance in the Cu+ 3d84s2 emission due to super-Coster-Kronig decay is found to occur primarily in the G1 multiplet (62%) with lesser amounts in F3 and D1 (29% and 8%). We find a comparatively large nonresonant emission due to inelastic scattering into 3d94p final states which occurs at approximately the same binding energy as 3d84s23F. Shake-up processes, in particular those leading to 3d95s, are shown to be important. It is concluded that interference in the 3pnd,εd channel leads to the dip in absorption found above the 3p4s peaks.
