Abstract
Electron loss from hydrogen atoms passing through atomic hydrogen is calculated in the Born approximation. Contribution of all open channels is taken into account by means of the closure approximation and corrections are introduced for the final states 1s, 2s and 2p of the target atom. It is shown that the procedure called 'corrected closure approximation' converges rapidly. Attention is drawn to the possibility of obtaining a close upper bound to the Born cross section. Excellent agreement with experimental data is obtained for impact energies beyond 50 keV, that is in the region where the Born approximation is expected to be successful. Keywords
