Abstract
Cats were given experimental epileptic seizures and the resulting acid-base changes in the blood were followed. A marked acidosis of 5 mEq./liter bicarbonate and 0.14 pH unit was found at the peak of the change 3 to 6 minutes after the seizure. This entire change can be accounted for by the observed increase in blood lactate. Recovery was virtually complete in 1 hour. Although the cat''s poor buffer system tends to exaggerate these changes there is a possible relation to human postepileptic symptoms. Keywords
