Abstract
Twenty-one patients with rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatic fever, bronchial asthma, polyarteritis nodosa and ulcerative colitis were treated with daily ACTH infusions over an 8-12 hour period. Thirteen of these patients were given small daily intraven. doses of 1-4 mg. ACTH. The other 8 cases were treated with daily intraven. doses of 6-20 mg. ACTH. The therapeutic results were equally good in all cases. Patients receiving small doses of ACTH showed an excretion of 17-ketosteroids/24 hrs. within normal limits, while larger doses increased ketosteroid excretion. In cases receiving small doses of ACTH, no disturbance of the electrolyte and carbohydrate metabolism was observed and eosinophile drop was not marked. Keywords
