Abstract
Capabilities of various continental-wide and worldwide short-period seismic networks are described. It is stressed that the proper approach to design of a worldwide network is the use of a limited number of high-quality stations rather than the use of many inferior stations. Such a result is expected because of the variation of P amplitude with epicentral distance. Keywords
