ABSORPTION OF VITAMIN A AFTER THORACIC DUCT LIGATION IN THE RAT

Abstract
Ligation of the thoracic duct of rats did not affect the extent and rate of absorption of vitamin A. After the vitamin had been administered orally, its concentration in portal blood was greater than in aortic blood of rats with ligated thoracic ducts. No such differences were observed in normal rats. It thus appeared that, when the lymphatic path was blocked, vitamin A entered the liver by way of the venous system.
