The Effect of Reduced Pressure on the Fit of Contact Lenses

Abstract
It is shown that the fit of a haptic contact lens is substantially improved by applying a suction of 2 cm of mercury to the fluid between the lens and the eye. No significant further improvement is produced by increasing the suction to 5 cm of mercury. The lower suction causes no discomfort to the subject and is therefore preferred. Methods of testing the accuracy with which the lens follows the movements of the eye are discussed and their accuracy estimated.
