Abstract
Progeny production and developmental periods of biotype E greenbug, Schizaphis graminum (Rondani), collected from grain sorghum in Texas and wheat in Arkansas were similar on wheat and sorghum, but dissimilar on corn. Means of 2.3, 2.4, and 2.7 Texas greenbug nymphs were produced per day when reared in the laboratory on ‘Warner 2188’ corn, ‘Scout 66’ wheat, and ‘Warner 839Dr’ sorghum leaves, respectively. Arkansas greenbug collections produced an average of 0.7, 2.3, and 3.1 nymphs per day on the same respective host plants. Developmental periods for populations from both geographic areas were nearly the same on wheat and sorghum. The Arkansas population had a shorter fourth stadium when compared with the Texas population and did not complete development on corn. Keywords
