High-Tc Superconductor Prepared by Oxidization of a Melt-Spun Eu1Ba2Cu3 Alloy Ribbon

Abstract
An Eu1Ba2Cu3 alloy ribbon with a nonequilibrium structure including an amorphous phase was prepared by melt-spinning. Heating of the alloy ribbon in air resulted in the structural change to a crystalline metallic phase at about 475 K, followed by the oxide formation of Eu1Ba2Cu3O6.5-6.7 at temperatures above about 555 K. The Eu1Ba2Cu3O6.7 prepared by oxidization of the melt-spun alloy ribbon was found to exhibit high-T c superconductivity with onset at 93 K and zero resistance at 87 K, even though the J c value at 4.2 K was as low as about 20 A/ cm2 in the absence of an applied field and 1.3 A/cm2 at H=7.5 T.
