Abstract
This article discusses media dependency research in general and then attempts to develop a dependency framework for an `old' periphery like Finland, a country with a colonial past and described as small, Western and industrialized. This framework is based on the concept of peripheral autonomy. The dominant form of dependency in such a situation is, according to this article, modelling. The article also presents empirical data on the Finnish media, particularly television and news transmission. Keywords
