Abstract
Expressions are found for the receptances of flexible rotating shafts. They are in series form and are expressed in terms of characteristic functions whose derivations and properties are explained. A knowledge of these receptances is all that is needed as regards the shaft in a theoretical discussion of any system of which the shaft forms part; in particular they permit the investigation of the motion at critical speeds and the stability of shafts in flexible bearings. Keywords
