Phyllotaxy of Pineapple Plant and Fruit

Abstract

Reexamination of the phyllotaxy of Cayenne plant-crop fruit from old photographs as well as from current fruit confirms a 21/55 phyllotaxy, with n [plus or minus] 8, 13, and 21 contact parastichies. Earlier reports of an 8/21 phyllotaxy are not sustained, even for very small fruits from ratoon plants.
