An Analysis of the Gain in Weight of Overfed Thin Young Men

Abstract
Gain in weight by 3 constitutionally thin young men during a period of overfeeding was only about 70% of that expected, following the reasoning of Keys and Bro[image]ek that it requires 6000 net calories to put on 1 kg of "obese tissue." Analysis of N and energy balances during the overfeeding period indicates that all the subjects'' gain in weight was due to deposition of fat and protein. There was no evidence of retention of body water.
