Abstract
To the Editor: Human immunodeficiency virus type 2 (HIV-2) was first identified in 1985 in healthy West Africans,1 and it was associated subsequently with the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in West Africans and Europeans.2 , 3 One case of AIDS associated with HIV-2 infection has been reported in the United States in a recent West African immigrant.4 We report an additional such case.A 39-year-old man presented in January 1988 with nausea, watery diarrhea, and a 10-kg weight loss over the preceding four months. He had immigrated from West Africa to Massachusetts in 1983. He reported no intravenous drug use or blood . . .Keywords
