Abstract
Auxin production in tomato plants was found to increase with age. The auxin produced in tips of l-2-mos.-old plants was collected by diffusion and by extraction with ether. The diffusion coeff. of this auxin was detd. The mol. wt. calculated from all diffusion coeffs. of diffused auxin was 201 [plus or minus] 6, that of extracted auxin was 203. This is close to the mol. wt. of indoleacetic acid (175) but significantly higher. A few acid and alkali sensitivity detns. of the extracted auxin correspond with the behavior of indoleacetic acid. Keywords
